The Trib reported today that the Bulls are expected to sign former Piston, Richard Hamilton, on Wednesday. If this does go down, then it effectively ends NB’s Nexus 6 Shooting Guard Search. At the very least, the N6SGS will be on a hiatus until Wednesday, or National Rip Day (seeing as how the Bulls are America’s Team). The sentiment around ye ole interweb seems to be summed up by DJ HatesYou’s response, which was, “I am cool with Rip, I guess.” This is definitely a low risk signing and plays right into the Bulls’ upper brass approach since the lockout ended, i.e. “We’re good enough. If we see an opportunity to tweak the roster, we will consider it.” (Ed. Note – Exclusive generic quote from anonymous NB source.)
It certainly is not the sexiest option out there, but I doubt the exciting stuff was ever all that realistic. The move for Dwight Howard does not look to be in the cards for the Bulls. With the aforementioned philosophy, the Bulls do not seem to be too interested in tearing it all up (or even trade a reserve big man) and roll the dice with abandon. Furthermore, it is said that Chicago is not on Dwight’s wish list. So while the NBA off season may continue to entertain and simultaneously piss off everyone, it looks like your Chicago Bulls may be done. Then again, the way things have gone thus far, expect Jerry Krause to rise from his grave and nix the deal – on orders from David Stern.
