Until the Bulls answer their shooting guard needs (or free agency ends, fruitless), each day NB will be taking a look at potential candidates to be the Bulls Nexus 6 shooting guard.
Up: A relatively young proletariat who can play both ends of the court. Unselfish on offense, but still able to knock down the the three (42.3% last year), Afflalo snubs the upper-class hierarchy and seems to be the people’s choice.
Down: Not exactly able to go off like an a-bomb and not readily available, as he is a restricted free proletariat. With JR Smith, Wilson Chandler, and Kenyon Martin living in the dream in the socialist paradise of China, players are at a premium in evil capitalist Denver. Ergo, they are likely to match the MLE of $5 million that the Bulls can offer in the market economy.
Nexus 6? Afflalo is a swell fit for the Bulls. He is not a dream candidate, but when you have dated a while and begin to lose hope of finding that knockout gorgeous smart chick with personality, you look at Afflalo and think, “You know, I could see myself settling down with him.” He is not a huge offensive upgrade, but he is an upgrade and he does not hurt you on the defensive end, like many other filthy capitalist two guard options out there.
Roy Batty Says: Fiery the angels fell. Deep thunder rolled around their shoulders… burning with the fires of Orc.
Verdict: Huh, I never really looked at it that way, Roy. Being in the camp that the Bulls are fine (though an explosive two would be grand) as is, Afflalo (much like newly signed Clipper, Caron Butler) is a solid complement player for the Bulls. He takes away nothing and fits well into the (capitalist) system. Not exactly a proletarian revolution, Afflalo provides them with a modest upgrade (based on value, not means of production). Yet, the odds of the Bulls being able to sign him look slim.
