This was a bizarre one. It was one of those games where it looked like the Bulls should have blown out the game, particularly in third. But that is what happens when you shoot 41% as a team.
This was the first game of the Bulls current five game road trip. It was a win, a win against a conference opponent, a conference where the Bulls are undefeated (12-0). So that’s good. Also, Joakim Noah looked a little like the old Noah, pounding the boards and rotating well on defense. So there was that too. But, man, this was an ugly game. The aforementioned third quarter had a spurt where the Bulls offense looked fluid. During that stretch the Bulls turned a deficit into a double digit lead and then coasted the rest of the game.
After the game I watched Blazing Saddles, which was much more amusing than this game. Mongo is one of the highlights of this movie, but Gene Wilder is my personal fave. Take the exchange when Wilder’s character, Jim, is introduced:
Bart: Are we awake?
Jim: We’re not sure. Are we… black?
Bart: Yes, we are.
Jim: Then we’re awake. But we’re very puzzled.
