In an attempt to leave no Bull unjived, I must report that we are celebrating the 5 day anniversary of a move that shocked the basketball world: Sidney Green was named Team Ambassador.
Sometimes we media types get wrapped up in “games,” “significant moves” and “out-of-wedlock children”. But when a Sidney Green makes the leap from Scout and Player Development Assistant to Team Ambassador, you take notice.
Many of you will recognize Green from Comcast rebroadcasts of Michael Jordan’s early years when the Bulls would top out at 38 wins. Here’s a common call from that day: “Larry Nance dunks it over a flailing Dave Corzine. Sidney Green inbounds to Jordan. Michael drives the length of the court, jumps over a defender and slams it with authority!” Green averaged 9 points and 6 rebounds in three season with the Bulls. He was said to have coined the phrase “Sidney Time”, which meant scoring 9 points and pulling down 6 rebounds.
It is particularly interesting that the other person in the role of Team Ambassador is one Scottie Pippen. Rationally we can conclude that Green will also be named to the Hall of Fame and the NBA’s Top 50 Players of All-Time. The roles of this position include “speaking engagements, school activities, non-profit and youth group appearances”. Can you imagine the look on a child’s face when they get Sidney Green and not Scottie Pippen to visit their “Big Brothers Big Sisters Ice Cream Social”? What I’m trying to say, is when your organization, school or quinceanera books an appearance from a Bulls Ambassador, be sure to specify which one is attending before you make any outlandish invitations.
